PSO: Transformer fire cuts power to 1,150 downtown Bartlesville customers

BARTLESVILLE, Okla. - Power has been restored to all but one of 1,150 Public Service Company of Oklahoma customers who lost power Tuesday afternoon in downtown Bartlesville.

Residences and a number of offices lost power at around 1:35 p.m. when a transformer unit near the Bartlesville Community Center caught fire, according to PSO Spokesperson Kelly Rice.

She said PSO crews sent to the scene had the power restored to all but seven customers nearly a half-hour later.

“So those customers were not out for very long,” she said.

Crews were still on scene late Tuesday afternoon working on the damaged unit.

PSO spokesperson Ed Bettinger told 2NEWS the sole customer still without power is the Bartlesville Community Center, a situation expected to be resolved by 6 a.m. Wednesday morning.

He said the fire was due to a fault in a ground cable leading to the transformer.
