BARTLESVILLE, Okla. - Polls opened Tuesday for the Bartlesville and Skiatook public schools elections, according to Washington County Election Board officials.
In Bartlesville, voters are deciding on two bond proposals by the Bartlesville Public School District totaling slightly more than $12.675 million .
The first proposal at $11.625 focuses largely on an early childhood center expansion for Richard Kane Elementary to replace three portable buildings now used as classrooms, upgrades for such as security entries and playground repairs to the district's other elementary school and improvements such as handrails, light and sound fixes to Custer Stadium. According to officials, only 3.4 of the bond will fund the Custer Stadium work.
The other portion of the bond will go toward operational costs such as textbooks, technology, maintenance and performing arts and athletics equipment.
The second proposal, at $1.05 million, would pay for transportation costs, including a number of new buses intended to gradually replace older buses and for five new maintenance pick-up trucks.
Skiatook voters are deciding on two bond proposals as well — the first for $7.695 million for building construction, improvements, equipment and furniture and the second, $300,000 for transportation costs.
Though polling areas are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Washington County Election Board Secretary Yvonne House suggests voters who want to be processed quickly to vote in the mid-morning or mid-afternoon, as those times are usually the slowest periods for voting during the day.
