This weekend downtown Bartlesville saw five new businesses open in the area.
Indulge Salon and Dayspa opened Friday, and Saturday Second Love - Vintage Global Décor, Green Country Beef, The French Nest and Curbside Closet held their grand openings.
These businesses join the dozens that have been drawn to the area since the city began its downtown revitalization plan in 2010. Over the past three years, Bartlesville has poured more than $5 million into renovations and development in order to bring new retail to the area.
Mike Roecker and his wife, Trinity, were putting the finishing touches on their shop Friday. He remembers coming downtown when he was a child and said he is excited to be back, now as an business owner.
“We are very excited about the buzz that is being created,” said Mike Roecker, the owner-operator of Green Country Beef. “We love downtown Bartlesville and want to see it revitalized. So the more business we can bring down here the more people we can get down here, and that’s better.”
Henk and Candy Shuringa were also drawn to the downtown area after seeing the investment the city had made in the area. As first time shop owners, the couple said they feel confident in bringing their business to Bartlesville.
“Bartlesville is growing. The downtown area specifically is being rethought, redeveloped, updated,” said Candy Shuringa.
Another business on tap for the area is Indian Coffee Company, which will open this summer. Last month, the Dane Group announced its plans to turn a building at 200 SE Frank Phillips Blvd. into a retail/restaurant space.
“This falls in line with why downtown Bartlesville was nominated and is in the top 3 as Downtown community of the Year by the Oklahoma Department of Commerce," said Chris Wilson, Downtown Bartlesville Inc. director.
