BARTLESVILLE, Okla. - Last year the site for the filming of Terrence Malick's movie 'To the Wonder,' Washington and Osage Counties may once again provide the setting for yet another Hollywood movie.
An official with the Bartlesville Convention and Visitors Bureau this week confirmed with 2NEWS it has been working with the Oklahoma Film and Music Office concerning the filming of “August: Osage County.”
“We know 'August: Osage County' is interested in filming in Oklahoma,” Bureau Executive Director Maria Swindell Gus told 2NEWS, saying that as recently as last week scouts were in the Bartlesville area.
The movie, co-produced by George Clooney and set to star Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts, is based on a play by Tulsa writer Tracy Letts about a dysfuctional family in Pawhuska.
“Meryl Streep will be Violet Weston and Julia Roberts, Barbara, the daughter,” Gus told 2NEWS.
“We are just lucky we have been one of the places they have scouted,” she said, saying though that she does not know if Bartlesville has been or will be selected.
“We would hope they choose to come here and we would be happy to host them.”
Scouts for the movie first appeared in Bartlesville in May of 2011, just months after Malick's crews finished their filming in Bartlesville for “To the Wonder,” starring Rachel McAdams and Rachel Weisz.
This movie, according to IMDb , is set to hit the screens sometime this year.
Gus said there has been discussion about holding its premier in Bartlesville.
