BARTLESVILLE, Okla. - Bartlesville police blame drunken driving for a single-car rollover accident Wednesday that sent one woman to jail.

Police arrested uninjured driver 44-year-old Angela Lynn Brown of Bartlesville after a breath analyzer test administered at the scene of the accident showed her blood-alcohol level to be higher than the state's limit of .08 percent.

According to Officer Steven Silver, officers tested her after they noticed the smell of alcohol on her breath and in the interior of her sedan found upside-down near the intersection of Virginia Avenue and Palmetto Drive.

Silver said in addition to finding an empty liquor bottle and a beer can in the vehicle, a field sobriety test performed on Brown indicated she had been drinking.

“She didn't do very well,” he said.

Shortly after 3:14 p.m. when police were first called to the scene, they arrived in time to see Brown working her way out of the vehicle. Silver recounted how Brown told officers, “I gotta get outta here,” as she worked herself free of the wreck.

Police said the accident happened as she was driving northbound on Virginia, drifted left of center and overcorrected right, sending her car off the road, into a ditch and through a barbed-wire fence where the vehicle came to rest on its roof.

Silver told 2NEWS Brown was lucky to escape from the incident unscathed.

Brown is free on $500 bond.
