Bartlesville man bound over for grandmother's beating death

BARTLESVILLE, Okla. - A Bartlesville man accused of beating his grand mother to death with a baseball bat in October is now set for a formal arraignment.

Twenty-year-old Brandon Capps, charged with first degree murder among other charges, appeared before a Washington County District Court judge Tuesday who set a formal arraignment date for May 1.

Capps, currently being held on a $1 million bond at the Washington County jail, was arrested on Oct. 31 a few hours after a neighbor to 81-year-old Clara Hammer called police after finding her dead near her front door.

Bartlesville police arrived to find Hammer with head injuries and a bat near her body, according to the case's court affidavit.

They quickly determined her grandson, 20-year-old Capps, the primary suspect in her murder and arrested a few hours later after finding him his grandmother's Oldsmobile, which police found missing from the driveway.

Along with the killing, Capps admitted to stealing jewelry and selling it to a local store. 

His other charges include unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, grand larceny, selling stolen property and knowingly concealing stolen property
