NORMAN, Okla. (AP) - The same day Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Sam Bradford went out after re-injuring his right shoulder, perhaps the most alarming statistic for Oklahoma was in the rushing column.
The Sooners (3-3, 1-1 Big 12) had minus-16 yards rushing in Saturday's loss to No. 3 Texas despite bringing back a pair of 1,000-yard rushers from last season's run to the BCS championship game.
Offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson said Tuesday that Oklahoma phased out its running game because it would have been too difficult to block against a Texas defense that was loaded up to stop the run. Instead, he tried to replace the running game with short passes.
Moving forward, though, Wilson says he wants to find ways to get the ground game going again.
