With Thanksgiving only weeks away and Christmas in less than two months, one local law enforcement agency plans on bringing the Holiday cheer to needy families throughout Washington County.
Last year during Thanksgiving the Sheriff's Office gave 12 baskets filled with turkeys, dressing, vegetables, rolls and pies to area families. For Christmas, the Sheriff's Office decorated a large trailer with lights. A Santa and wife then rode the "sleigh" and delivered presents to children who were likely not going to be able to open presents during Christmas.
Silver said local businesses and individuals made last year's efforts a success.
"Had it not been for the great support we had from everyone in the community, we would not have been able to do this," he said.
The Sheriff's Office desires to do the same this year, but bigger, and is asking for donations toward its annual effort to help needy families in the area with Thanksgiving and Christmas needs.
Silver said his office will be sending out letters to everyone who donated last year not only to ask for their help this year, but also to ask them to spread the word about the Sheriff's Office's desire to help more families this year.
Silver said any help would be greatly appreciated.
"We look forward to making this holiday season a great one for our needy families in Washington County," said Silver.
