A Bartlesville man plead guilty to charges of first degree manslaughter and failure to stop at an accident.

William Burton Livingston III, 32, made the plea during his appearance in court Monday at the Washington County Courthouse.

In his last court appearance on Sept. 9, Livingston waived a jury trial.

Livingston was arrested after a hit-and-run accident on Oct. 10, 2008 claimed a man's life.

According to the affidavit, the incident occurred on Frank Phillips Boulevard at about 5:30 p.m. as Livingston was driving eastbound and swerved off the road to avoid a collision with another vehicle. In so doing, he struck Joseph Purrington, 21, who was then biking, killing him.

According to the police, Livingstone proceeded to drive only stopping after driving a mile from the scene of the incident.

The police said that witnesses reported seeing Livingstone driving erratically before and after the accident. According to the affidavit, the arresting officer believed Livingston to be intoxicated at the time of his arrest.

Livingston has been ordered back to court on Dec. 30 for sentencing. He is free on bond.
