A Bartlesville man, now free on bond, faces multiple charges after he allegedly stole a vehicle and fled police.
Ulysses James Watson, 22, faces charges of vehicle theft, obstructing an officer and resisting arrest. During a hearing held at the Washington County Courthouse on Monday, the judge upheld his bond amount of $7,500 and set his next court date for Feb. 19.
According to the arrest affidavit, the incidents which lead to Watson's arrest began at 12:48 p.m. when the Bartlesville Police Department dispatched officers to the 700 block of S.E. Wyandotte to investigate a possible domestic abuse complaint. Dispatch told officers en route the suspect, Watson, had just stolen the alleged victim's Chrysler PT Cruiser.
The report said two officers arriving on scene at the same time split up, one heading to the residence and the other heading eastward on 8th Street. The officer on 8th Street then saw Watson in the Chrysler approaching the intersection of 8th Street and Choctaw Avenue and soon after, radioed the other officers telling them he was pursuing Watson on foot.
Watson was then seen running westbound in between houses off Choctaw Avenue. Soon after, officers located Watson, tased him and took him into custody, according to the report.
The affidavit said the alleged victim told police she and Watson had been formerly dating and as they no longer were, he had come to her residence to visit their children. She told police she and Watson earlier had been in her car when Watson, in the passenger seat, fought for and and took the keys, at which point she jumped out of the car. She said Watson drove away and returned a few minutes later to try to convince her to get into the car. She told police she refused, telling him she had called the police and instructing him not to take the car. Watson then left, taking the car, she said.
She said it was then when the police showed up on scene, said the report.
The affidavit said “a minor child in the back seat of the vehicle the entire time.”
