Sand Springs man says unwanted dumpster attracts critters

Last Update: 11/10/2009 7:49 am
Jerry Sloan says he worked hard for 30 years to enjoy a peaceful retirement in a Sand Springs neighborhood.

But he says recently something has disturbed the peace -- the mountain of trash in the dumpster on the lot next door and all the critters it attracts.

"Roaches, rats, mice.  There's even snakes in this area," says Jerry.  "I've sprayed 3 times around the house."

While he can protect his house from the critters, Jerry says he can't protect everyone. He worries about all the kids who live in the neighborhood.

"I was concerned about them coming around because they ride their bikes and scooters right here," says Jerry.

For six months now Jerry says he's made countless phone calls to American Waste, "Halo Homes," the construction company that is renting the dumpster, and even the city of Sand Springs.  But the dumpster is still there.

"I can't seem to solve my problem but I see where the Problem Solvers have accomplished quite a bit," says Jerry.

We started by calling American Waste who asked us to call Halo Homes. The company was extremely cooperative. They apologized for leaving the dumpster and promised to remove it quickly. Within just a few days, it was gone.

"I'm very happy that it's been removed and I'm grateful for the help that KJRH has given me," says Jerry.

Now he just hopes all those critters are the next to leave.
