An unsightly lot in Tulsa County causes questions for neighbors

Rick's church is across the street from an overgrown and littered property. He says "My church has been dealing with the overgrown weeds, abandoned trailer and trash dumped on the lot across the street for five years. We've reported it to the city but nothing has been done."

We did some research with the City and County and the reason Tulsa officials can't take action is because the lot isn't in city limits.

On the County side while there is a nuisance ordinance it only applies to residential property that is platted. The land across the street from the 7th day Baptist Church is not. It's the same reason that keeps the Count Health Department from taking action.

While some people chose to live or build in the county because there are fewer regulations it can be troublesome when these types of issues arise.

Church leaders can find out who that property belongs to by contacting the County Assessor's Office.

There isn't an agency that can require a clean-up but sometimes a polite letter from neighbors can motivate the owner to do the right thing.
