A Sand Springs school bus driver turned to us in hopes of raising awareness of a danger he sees daily. Dan drives a school bus and says every day several cars run the red stop sign and unloading lights on his bus. He says "The public needs to realize this is a high priority safety issue. By law drivers have to stop when the bus stops and let these kids get where they're going safely. It could safe a child's life."
Late last year we brought you the story of a 12-year-old girl who was hit while crossing the street after getting off of her school bus. The driver told police he couldn't see very well that afternoon because he was headed west into the glare of the sun. Thankfully the girl's injuries were not serious.
We can all do our part by following the law and stopping anytime a school bus is stopped and keep an extra sharp eye out for children whether you're in a school zone or surrounding neighborhoods.
