A Green Country business is helping to make the Olympics a bit more green. The Olympic Village, also known as the "birds nest" plays host to the opening and closing ceremonies as well as numerous athletic events. Inside the "nest" is millions of dollars of eco-friendly technology from Catoosa.
"Certainly we had communication barriers" said Phil Schoen, President of Geo-Enterprises.
Through a partnership with Oklahoma State University, Schoen was instrumental in instructing the Chinese on ground source heat pumps.
After a week long concentrated training session with about 67 chinese companies Phil began teaching the Chinese how to install the pumps. Schoen explained, "Vertical bore hole heat exchangers were drilled about 75 meters about 190 feet deep into the floor of the Olympic Village."
Basically, using those bore holes and hundreds of pipes the entire Olympic Village is heated and cooled by the Earth's constant temperature. The ground source heat pumps will also help in the effort to conserve energy. Each unit is equal to taking two cars off the road or planting one acre of trees.
Geo-Enterprises out of Catoosa has worked with hundreds of local banks, schools, and homeowners.
