A bunch of government agencies have come together to create a consumer site called
http://foodsafety.gov and it's a resource everybody needs to check out.
For starters, it lists up-to-date food recalls from around the country. And you'd be surprised by how many there are, and how often bad food gets in our supply chain.
But the site is very helpful in helping us understand food poisoning, what causes it, what we can do to treat it, and how to prevent it.
There's info and preparation and cooking instructions on meat, poultry, dairy products, and fruits and veggies.
Did you know, for example, that hot dogs and luncheon meats, even if they are unopened, can go bad in your fridge in just a few days?
Even frozen, they shouldn't be kept more than a couple months.
