Frozen Vegetables Shrinking in Size

Last Update: 10/14 5:58 pm
"The corn and broccoli were 4 ounces smaller."
Notice anything strange at the grocery store the past few weeks Specifically in the frozen food aisle?

One man did. And now he's speaking out about the latest product to shrink in size.

What Happened to the Frozen Veggies?

Seems every time you go to the grocery store these days, something you buy is smaller than it used to be.

The latest aisle to be hit by the shrink machine: The frozen food section.

Steve Rippol of Blue Ash says "I found some frozen packages were 2 ounces smaller, but the corn and broccoli were 4 ounces smaller."

Steve tells me he suspected something was different when he saw the new labels on this store brand frozen corn at his local Kroger.

Steve says "I saw the new package and that always makes me suspicious that something has changed."

Sure enough, the new one is just 12 ounces. The old one was 16, four ounces more.

Not Just Store Brands

But even the smaller store brand packages still give you more than some of the national brands.

Green Giant's box of frozen spinach is down to 9 ounces...while their new Healthy Vision veggies give you just 7. Kroger at lease gives you 10 ounces in most of their frozen boxes (though that's down from 12).
