A well known medical journal is taking back statements regarding autism and childhood vaccines.
The information published in the Lancet Medical Journal in 1998, sparked sparked years of controversy and panic over the safety of vaccines.
In the 1998 issue, a report by a british doctor linked the measles, mumps and rubella vaccine with autism. Doctors say the paper is one of the biggest reasons parents have increasingly declined vaccinations for their children.
But February 2nd, 2010 the Lancet issued a press release stating "It has become clear that several elements of the paper... are incorrect."
Last week, a british disciplinary panel ruled the original author had shown a "callous disregard" for children.
