Americans are waiting longer to get married, but new statistics show a majority will tie the knot at some point in their life.

Researchers at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention studied surveys filled out by over 12,000 adults ages 15 to 44. They found over 80-percent of men, and 86-percent of women will marry by age 40. They also found women tend to marry younger than men, and African American men and women are less likely to be married at age 35 than caucasian men and women.

Past studies have shown people who are married tend to have better physical, emotional and economic well-being. Recently, the Department of Health and Human Services started the Healthy Marriage Initiative, which promotes the benefits of being married.

The National Center for Health Statistics released the details on the CDC marriage report.
