Want to improve your golf game? Treat your sleep apnea.
A new study finds golfers with obstructive sleep apnea who were treated with nasal positive airway pressure (N-PAP) for their disorder lowered their golf handicap by as much as three strokes.
Researchers believe the improvement in sleep quality helps golfers think more clearly and make good decisions. In fact, the study showed the best golfers had the greatest improvements in their game.
Other studies have shown as few as 40-percent of sleep apnea patients use a breathing machine at night.
Researchers hope their findings motivate more people, especially golfers, to seek treatment.
The study was led by researchers at Morristown Memorial Hospital and presented at the American College of Chest Physicians annual meeting.
