Exercise may battle the common cold

Last Update: 10/27 9:42 pm
Want to prevent the common cold this winter? Lace up a pair of walking shoes.

Studies have shown people who exercise consistently take up to half the time off of work because of sickness.

Experts from the American College of Sports Medicine say just because you are a bit under the weather, doesn't mean you can't get out for a brisk walk. If a cold has not moved to your chest, feel free to exercise, researchers say. However, do not over-exert yourself. Stick to walking instead of running.

There is one exception. Doctors say that if you have worse symptoms, like body aches or fever, stay in bed. Then take a few weeks off before working out again.
