It appears crooks are using Tulsa's top cop as a centerpiece for the latest scam.

We received an anonymous call from a lady who said  "I received a phone call from a man who said he was collecting donations for a foundation endorsed by Tulsa Police Chief Ron Palmer. It sounded very legitimate so I gave him my credit card number. Now, I think I've been taken and want to warn others about what I think is a scam."

That caller's right, it is a scam.

And police are throwing up the red flag, too.

They've received serveral calls as well.

"Chief Palmer has not endorsed anything nor will be ever endorse anything. He's not given his permission for anyone to use his name."

If you've fallen victim to the scam, or if you've received a call from those scammers, police ask you to go to the Tulsa police website, TPD.org, click on report a crime, then crime report.

Fill out the form and submit it on-line.

And police want to repeat this important warning.

Never give your personal or financial information to someone you don't know, especially if you receive an unsolicited call or e-mail.
