The need for holiday help is increasing in Green Country

While some are making a dent in eating Halloween candy, others are thinking about Christmas.

Nearly 3,000 Green Country families have Holiday assistance checked off their list.

The Salvation Army opened its Joy Center last week, and on the first day alone, 600 families signed up for holiday assistance.

Leaders say the Salvation Army is up 20% in need.  They are encouraging donors to help the United Way, the agency that helps them and more than 60 other non profits.

"If they don't, then these people will go without. Who wants children to be without anything at Christmas time," said Salvation Army Volunteer Ruth Ann Thompson.

"It is absolute critical mode right now, we are definitely asking for anyone to step forward and help out the campaign in anyway they can. This year especially with the increased need in the community," said United Way Loaned Executive Jackie Wells.
