Kathy was desperate when she decided to pay a company to get her out of debt. She says "They ended up taking my money and doing nothing for me in return except wrecking my credit. I know I am not the first one to get ripped off by these so-called 'debt-relief' agencies. Isn't there an agency to help protect people from being taken by these companies?"
The fact is these companies are largely unregulated leaving individuals to somehow navigate the difficult financial waters.
If you're in trouble go to a legitimate organization. The
Credit Counseling Centers of Oklahoma is a top-notch not for profit organization. Beware of less than legit companies that use very similar names.
