KJRH Vice President and General Manager Mike Vrabac and 2NEWS staff members visited an Advanced Journalism class at Bartlesville High School Wednesday to speak to students about a new initiative.

KJRH News Director Steve Weinstein and Online Content Director Russell Mills accompanied Vrabac during the visit.

They spoke to the class, taught by long-time journalism teacher Darla Tresner, about an intiative involving cooperation between the class and the BartlesvilleLIVE.com website.

The site, owned and operated by KJRH-TV in Tulsa, features news, weather and sports information specifically related to the Bartlesville area.

Vrabac, in cooperation with Tresner, has created a program whereby Bartlesville Journalism students can write articles for the BartlesvilleLIVE.com website.

In turn, KJRH and BartlesvilleLIVE.com staffers will provide the students with training and guidance in online Journalism, and offer some insights into the rapidly-changing world of news gathering and dissemination.

Several students expressed interest in participating, and three--Matt Henton, Makayla Jackson, and Christian Parnell--have already begun work on submitting stories for the website.

Increasingly, young journalists entering the workplace need experience in producing online content as well as stories for air or print.

"I'm really encouraged to see the level of participation," said Weinstein after the visit. "I look forward to working with (the students) in the near future."

"It was exciting to see the students so engaged and interested," Vrabac said. "They seemed very enthusiastic about the opportunity to utilize BartlesvilleLIVE.com as a means to communicate information about what's happening in their school."
