Ask Dan Column for Nov. 16, 2007 (unanswered questions)

Each week I select a question from readers that I think others
might enjoy and do my best to answer them in this column.  Some
weeks are easier than others.   What you do not read are the
questions that I either cannot answer or will not answer.  To
give you a flavor, here are a few of those.

Why does your nose run when it gets cold?  That is not really
a weather question.   Guess I could ask my local doctor but I
honestly do not know.   When I do go on my rare visits to see
our family physician, the topic never comes up.  I think it has
something to do with mucus.  But who wants to read about that
with your morning cup of coffee?

How much snow do you expect this winter?  I have no idea.
There is no accurate way to predict what the next several months
may bring.  We can look at trends, and very vague long range
computer models, persimmon seeds, tea leaves, and watch how
many nuts the squirrels are collecting, but it still is basically a
guess.

Other unanswered questions include: What is the recipe for snow
ice cream?  Can you recommend a waterproof boot?  How much
money do you make?  What city has the best weather in the
United States?  What causes chill bumps?  Now that one is a great
question. Next time I visit my doctor I’ll have to ask him about that
and why our noses run when it’s cold.  I’ve always wondered about
that!
