Ask Dan Column for Mar. 13, 2009 (Random Questions)
It has been a busy week in the weather center. Most of the questions
that come in are on the phone. Here is a sample of some of the inquiries
received:
Do you think it will be a wet or dry spring? Sadly, I think our drought
will continue. Are storm chasers crazy? Most are not. Do you think we
will have an active storm season? I think it will be a deadly year, but
overall the tornado count will be below average. Do you think it will be
a hot summer? Oh yes.
We had a little sleet and snow earlier in the week, and that created
a lot of calls. Do you think it will snow again this year? No. How many
inches of snow equals 1 inch of rain? About 10” but it varies. What do
you call those mushy little ice balls that fell? Those are called graupel.
Then there are always random questions that come out of nowhere.
What time does your morning meteorologist wake up each day? 2:00 AM
if it is a quiet weather morning. What was that bright star near the moon?
That was Venus. Where do you buy your ties? The mall. Do you ever
talk to the weather guys at the other stations? Yes.
A frequent caller, named Jared, has questions about everything. How
many phones are on the weather set? Three. Do you guys ever look
at the Farmer’s Almanac? Only for amusement. Do you like it when
viewers call you with questions? Yes we do.
