October Vacation - Oct 12, 2007

Last Update: 10/27/2007 11:18 pm
If you look at the statistics, the cities with the most number of rainy days in October are; Marquette, MI with an average of 15.8 drenched days and Miami, FL 14.5 soggy October days. The city that I expected to have a highest number of rainy days, Seattle, averaged only 13.5 days. So I would avoid these places for your vacation. October rainfall also varies quite a bit. You probably want to mark Houston off your vacation list. They average 4.3” of rain this month. New York has an average of 3.6”. Dallas averages 3.5” in October but only 2.2” in Wichita, KS. All though they might soak you out of some money, Las Vegas is usually dry in October. On average they only receive two tenths of an inch of rain in October. Here is another idea to consider. You do not have to crawl on a plane to have a good vacation. Check locations in your local area. There are State Parks and Lodges all over this area. Some tucked away that you rarely hear about that are inexpensive, quiet, beautiful, and relaxing. Some have pools, golf courses, walking/running trails, gyms, restaurants, lakes, and other natural beauty that we rarely take the time to appreciate. It has been a tough week, so the idea of getting up when you want and taking the time to read all of the entire morning paper with a good cup of coffee, then going on a peaceful walk with someone you love, is sounding pretty good right now. We all seem to be on the go, with little time for rest these days. The idea of getting away from work, the computer, the phone, and the day to day stress of a job, may be as close as a couple of hours away from your front door. If you are relaxing correctly, it may not even matter if it’s raining during your vacation. If you have a weather question for Dan, send it to: askdan@kjrh.com
