BETH BURNETT burnett@kjrh.com "It's great to be home!" said Beth Burnett as she started her first day as Channel 2's Problem Solver Reporter. Beth is in her 4th year with 2NEWS, now a General Assignment reporter. Her stories appear Monday through Friday on 2NEWS at 5 pm and 6 pm.
Beth comes to Channel 2 from Fort Smith Arkansas but she's a true Okie at heart. Beth grew up in Edmond Oklahoma, where she got her start in the news business. "We had a live news cast on weekdays at U.C.O. We had deadlines similar to a large newsroom."
While attending school at U.C.O., Beth spent countless hours following reporters around at KWTV News 9. Her internship at News 9 landed her a job there. As an associate producer for KWTV, Beth knew she picked the right career. "It was nice to write the news for my own family and neighbors."
Beth soon got an on air gig at KSWO Channel 7 in Lawton Oklahoma. "Covering news in a military town was heartwarming. There's nothing like a good soldier homecoming!" Soon, Beth would be calling the Hogs in Arkansas, although she's a true Sooner fan at heart. She reported on crime, missing persons, and overcrowded jails while at KHBS/KHOG 40/29 "Your Hometown News." Beth received a 1st place award from the Arkansas Association of Broadcasters for investigative reporting. The Arkansas Association of Broadcasters awarded her with several 2nd place awards for spot news reporting as well. During Beth's last days as a reporter in Fort Smith Arkansas, the mayor of Fort Smith named a day after her, saying "Beth helped make life worth living in Fort Smith."
After two years in Arkansas, she ran for the Oklahoma border. "I have fallen in love with Tulsa. I plan to stick around for a long time," Beth said.
Beth recently won a first place award from the Society of Professional Journalists for her piece called "The Power of Allyson." The web exclusive was the first for KJRH.com.
In her spare time, Beth enjoys taking black and white photo's, trying out new restaurants, and running. "I am so happy to be home and would not have made it this far with out my family and friends. Thanks Mom, Dad, Jeff, Rachael, Tyler, Meghan, Lauren, Tammy, Sandy, Misty, and Andrea. I'm proud to be a part of your family, and now the Channel 2 family as well!"
