WASHINGTON COUNTY - An investigation is underway after a Washington County Jail inmate was found dead in a cell early Wednesday morning.
According to a release from Sheriff Rick Silver, the inmate, who authorities are not identifying at this time, was found unresponsive in a cell near the booking area around 2:15 a.m. as staff performed an hourly cell check. An hour prior, Silver said, the inmate was responsive in the same cell.
When staff entered the cell, Silver says the inmate had no pulse and appeared to not be breathing.
Staff administered CPR and called paramedics who pronounced the inmate dead at the jail.
Silver says the preliminary investigation indicates the inmate suffered medical distress. The state medical examiner's office and the Oklahoma Department of Health Jail Standards Division are assisting with the investigation.
