BARTLESVILLE, Okla. - The grandson of an 81-year-old Bartlesville woman has confessed to beating her to death.
Clara Hammer was found dead near her front door Wednesday afternoon by a concerned neighbor. Hammer's mail had been piling up and vehicle had gone missing.
Bartlesville police quickly linked Hammer's grandson, 20-year-old Brandon Capps, as the primary suspect in her murder. He was arrested a few hours after the discovery of Hammer's body, found in his grandmother's missing Oldsmobile.
Hammer was found with head injuries and a bat near her body, according to a court affidavit released Thursday.
Along with the killing, Capps admitted to stealing jewelry and selling it to a local store.
He is charged with first-degree murder, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, grand larceny, selling stolen property and knowingly concealing stolen property.
Capps' bond was set at $1 million Thursday. He is due in court Friday.
