Frigid temps prompt Thursday school closings in

With a strong Arctic cold front moving into northeastern Oklahoma Wednesday evening, bringing with it extremely low temperatures and possible blowing snow, several school districts in Washington County have cancelled classes.

The front is set to arrive in the area by 7 p.m. Wednesday is projected to bring blowing snow and to cause temps to plummet to 1 degree Fahrenheit overnight -- the temps on Thursday expected to rise only 10 degrees throughout the day. According to  2Works for You meteorolists, winds chills will be as low as -5 to -15 by Thursday morning.

Because of the threat posed by these temperatures, the Bartlesville, Dewey and Caney Valley public school districts in Washington County have all cancelled Thursday classes.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 6 p.m. Wednesday to 10 a.m. Thursday. The main threat will be blowing snow on the roadways this later evening.
