BARTLESVILLE, Okla. - A Bartlesville dealership was the scene of a massive wheel theft over the weekend.
A customer at Patriot Auto noticed something unusual Sunday morning and alerted workers that the wheels of a truck in their lot were missing.
Police say 76 wheels and tires from 19 different GMC trucks were stolen at Patriot GMC dealership between 10:30 p.m. July 19 and 8 a.m. July 20.
Police say the trucks were jacked up and the tires were stolen. When the theft was discovered police say the trucks were sitting on cement blocks.
The dealership believes the theft involved more than one suspect due to the items stolen.
According to police, the suspect is believed to be an experienced mechanic. Police say they believe the suspects entered with a covered trailer and left using a back road to avoid suspicion.
Only the trucks with the most expensive wheels were stolen, according to the dealership's owner, who estimated the loss to be over $50,000.
The dealership added extra safety measures to make sure this would not happen again.
